Not an official CycAle ride but an annual ride organised by the CTC. It finishes at pub so it's CycAleish. We usually do the 40 mile version, this year's route is a reprise of the route via Hadleigh so fondly remembered by Jeff's lip. Meet at the ride's starting point.
Organiser, CTC's Brian Penny says:
"With my apologies for the long time in preparation, I attach the route sheets for the Colchester 40/40 on Sunday 11th August.
Our annual get together to plan the rides for the next year.
Bring ideas for rides - and even better, a willingness to lead one!
Cycle ride to Chelmsford Winter Ale Festival. Approximately 30 miles with return by train. Meet in the car park of the Leather Bottle.

A ride to the Chappel Winter Beer festival, we will be meeting at the Bricklayers Arms car park at 10.15am
It will be a modest ride of about 15 miles to the festival, via Nayland and Bures, and about 15 miles back via Fordham, Copford Green and Layer. Shorter return options will be available, as well as returning by train. I’ve haven’t arranged lunch anywhere, on the assumption that food will be available at the festival, but bring spare bananas (in suitable holders) just in case.
The ride out to Edwardstone on 16th March will be about 40 miles in total, with an option of returning by train from Sudbury or Bures if anyone wants a shorter ride. (however, there is engineering work from Marks Tey to Colchester on that day, so trains will only be running as far as Marks Tey). andere

A ride of approximately 35 miles, whenever possible we will be riding through country lanes. The route will take us off road for a few hundred yards; although there is an alternative route should wet weather make this section of the ride too muddy. We will take in a minimum of four hostelries starting with The Square & Compasses at Fuller Street & finishing at the Woolpack at Witham. As is the tradition, luncheon will be taken at the Compasses, Littley Green.
Toss's ride will be heading into the wilds of Suffolk. Plan is to catch the 10.23 train from Colchester, arriving at Stowmarket at 10.55. A circular ride follows, taking in the delights of Needham Market, Swilland, Debenham and more, ending up back in Stowmarket manlig-halsa.se. Lunch will be taken at The Moon and Mushroom at Swilland so I do need numbers so I can book us some tables.
I hope to ride it beforehand but I reckon on 30-35 miles all told.
To sort out group saves and the tickets meet at the station at 10.
Taking advantage of the long days Jules is arranging a circular ride around Colchester. Come along and have a go.
Once a year we run an evening CYCale ride, aimed specifically at New Riders and Regulars. The route is predominantly on country roads.
This year we will be visiting The Fox-Layer de la Haye, Alma-Copford, Live and Let Live-Stanway, and finishing in the Hospital Arms-Colchester for those still thirsty.
The total distance is 13.8 miles, with the hops between pubs shorter as the evening rolls on. The first stage to The Fox is just over 4 miles.
Jeff's in charge of this one, over to you Jeff....
As I’m organising the Cycale weekend away, here’s the plan
Ride postponed.
Intrepid CycAlist Robin is setting off on a mamoth ride from Colchester to John O' Groats (or, some point along the way...). To see him off on his adventures July's ride will catch up with Robin for lunch on the first day of his ride.
Meet at North Station 9am to catch the 9:35 train to Sudbury. If anyone would like to meet in Sudbury the train arrives at 10:21.
A ride to Ipswich Beer Festival - date still to be confirmed - then on to Felixstowe and across to Harwich on the ferry before back to Colchester. Lots of options on the length of this ride, with a choice of returning by train from Ipswich or Harwich or doing the full circular ride.
If you'd like to join the ride then email Keith at cycling@colchestercamra.org.uk

This ride is planned to be to be one of the longer and more demanding cycale rides.
This ride in its entirety is about 60 odd miles. However, It is possible for anyone who does not want to complete it to drop down in to Braintree and return by train. This would be after about 40 miles. if you plan to come and make the ride shorter , please bring a map!
The plan is as follows:
A ride to Chappel Beer Festival.
If you'd like to join the ride then email Keith at cycling@colchestercamra.org.uk

It will be a 9.30am departure from Colchester. Meet at the junction of King Coel Road/Halstead Road (by the footbridge over the A12).
Our route will take us via a refreshment stop in Halstead and into the wilds of North West Essex, finishing up in Braintree where we will return on the 6.00pm train to Colchester.
Our annual ride to Norwich Beer Festival with an overnight stop in Beccles along the way.

Friends, Romans, Cycalists, lend me your ears!
On 6th December our annual ride to the Harwich and Dovercourt Winter Beer Festival takes place.
Depart from Leisure World at 10 and meet up again at Wivenhoe Station at 10-30 for those who prefer not to use the Wivenhoe trail. Route is Sustrans 51 as usual.
No pubs on route - just beer and food at the festival. Option to return by railway for the inebriated or too tired to cycle back.
Thanks to Greater Anglia there's no trains to return from Chelmsford on so the planned ride to Chelmsford Winter Beer Festival has been switch to a circular ride to Maldon and back.
The ride will be just under 40 miles in total with lunch in Maldon and a few pub stops along the way.
If you'd like to join the ride then email Keith at cycling@colchestercamra.org.uk

This month’s cycale ride is a tour of South Suffolk pubs (and a bit of Essex), calling at (probably) Mistley (tea stop), Pin Mill, Harkstead, Tattingstone (2 pubs), East Bergholt and Manningtree. Lunch will probably be at the White Horse at Tattingstone (now under the same ownership as the Black Buoy at Wivenhoe) – please let Jeff know (via email address below) in the next few days if you are lunching, so I can book with the pub.
Total distance should be in the region of 45 miles, with a shorter option of about 35 miles if anyone wants to return by train from Manningtree.
A ride to the Easter Beer Festival at Mersea Island Brewery and Vineyard.
If you'd like to join the ride then email Keith at cycling@colchestercamra.org.uk
Robin is leading a ride... destination to be confirmed, possibly another of Robin's cracking London rides.
Expect a few pub stops along the way whereever we go.
If you'd like to join the ride then email Keith at cycling@colchestercamra.org.uk
We will travel by train to Chelmsford. From there we will ride about 30 miles through the Essex countryside, much of it is hopefully virgin territory for Cycaleists. We will be visiting a minimum of five cracking pubs including the annual luncheon stop at the splendid Compasses, Littley Green. One of the pubs is holding a beer festival & another has a ‘celebrity’ owner. Meet at North Station (south side) at 09.45 to organise rail tickets & possible coffees.
A bit of Deja Vu in that we are getting the train to Chelmsford again, but this time to cover a different area around Chelmsford.
Meet at North Station-London side to make it easier as no carrying bikes down the stairs-at 10.30 to catch the 10.43.
Ride will be about 35 miles, with a short bit of off-roading.This is on a good quality track, but if you should wish it can be avoided with a bit of a detour, about a couple of miles.Pubs in Margaretting Tye,The Hanningfields and others.
